JUNE 2007

Now that the piers are finally in the water, ‘tis the season for festivals, families and fun, and we’re taking that philosophy to the hilt. Join us for a sampling of the area’s finest “must-see-and-do” events. We’re not just talking funnel cakes and corkscrew dives here!

We’re also looking back to lazier days at Camp Logan and looking forward to “doin’ da Dunes”. Oh, and while we’re at it, were’ checking in with jazz sensation Jackie Allen, a LAKES Country favorite (and resident).

It’s all inside the pages of Northern Indiana LAKES Magazine, our area’s premier lifestyle publication.

SUMMER DAZE AT CAMP LOGAN

"Epo a tai tai a-oh, Epo a tai tai a-oh, Epo a tai tai,
Epo a tookie tookie, Epo a tookie tookie a-oh"

How many Hoosier women and girls have marched the trail up to Wakada unit at Camp Ella J. Logan Girl Scout Camp for their last campfire before going home? And how many remember the song sung by camp counselors lining the trail, holding candles and serenading young scouts as they head back to their tents for a final night of giggling?

THINKING SUMMER? THINK INDIANA DUNES

Tonda Longenecker knows the feeling of sand between her toes. She knows how it feels walking, she knows how it feels running, and she knows how it feels climbing a hundred foot dune. Tonda now lives in Dallas and maintains a cottage on Morrison Island at Lake Wawasee.

TOWN PROFILE: LaGrange

Sing it! Home, home in LaGrange... LaGrange (est. pop. 3,000) abuts the Michigan state line in northeast Indiana. It was named county seat for LaGrange County in 1843, wresting the title from Lima (now Howe), which held honors for ten years.

LAKE PROFILE: Cedar Lake

Cedar Lake boasts museums and more. Lake of the Red Cedars once was a food stop for Native Americans, who made their way along the Pottawatomie trail in search of the area’s abundant game and fish. It provided a different lure for the party-minded during Prohibition.
