WHEN OLD IS NEW AGAIN
HOW ONE HISTORIC BOAT IS STILL MAKING WAVES

Clete Schenkel owns a piece of wooden boat history. A rare piece, indeed.
The treasure is a 1941 Chris-Craft Barrelback, a 19-ft. Custom he estimates is one of about forty still in existence. Schenkel, president of Schenkel & Sons Builders & Engineers in Fort Wayne, invested almost five years and about 1,000 labor hours restoring the glory of this beautiful runabout.

BACKROADS + BYWAYS

Long before Route 66, Thelma & Louise, Blue Highways and Grapes of Wrath, there was the Original Mother Lode of the Open Road: The Lincoln Highway.

LAKES COUNTRY RESTAURANT RAVES

Your directions: Wander past the walnut trees and the woods that hug the side of the road; follow the windswept scent of the lakes and turn off the beaten path. You are now headed toward culinary Heaven on a treasure hunt for the unheralded, the undiscovered and/or the unusual.
Hold on to your hats, Lakers. We're goin' explorin'!
